American Chronicle: Why do they call American’s ‘dumb?’

Apparently, I’m not alone in this. Sentiment towards American’s isn’t always in tip-top shape, especially due to politics over here. The American Chronicle gives us a little bit of insight into the experiences of American’s abroad:
When I was working in Saudi Arabia, a British co-workers once asked me:” Let me sing you the national anthem of the country of dummies?” Then he proceeded to sing “the Star-Spangled Banner” with the following lyrics: “Dumb-dumb-dumb dumb-dumb-dumb..”. Another British co-worker said that Americans were the dumbest race of people on the face of the Earth.
The little things like this are what I find the most interesting about going abroad: You really begin to understand what it means to be American the first time you leave this country. But it’s okay, we LOVE IT.
